PLUMBING TRADE.
EXAMINATION RESULTS UNSATISFACTORY.
(BY IELtDIIAPH I'RUa** ASSOOIAIION i WELLINGTON, Sept. 22. The Plumbers’ Board of New' Zealand, having called attention to the unsatisfactory results obtained in the last plumbers’ registration examination, when a considerable number of candidates failed to pass, the Technical College Board to-night discussed the question. It uvas stated that students attending the school had not presented themselves foe May. They preferred to wait until they had completed their course and enter for the examinations at the end of the year. The opinion was expressed that the unsuccessful candidates were not students but journeymen “having a shot” on the off chance of passing. The system under which plumbers* examinations were conducted was described as unsatisfactory. To require a student to undergo a course of study that should occupy six or seven years and to hold no test until the end .of the period was extraordinary. The City and Guilds of London certificates in •plumbing covered much the same giound as Plumbers’ Board examinations. They require the passing of at least two separate examinations, and it would greatly encourage plumbing apprentices to take up a satisfactory course of study if a similar system was adapted by the Plumbers’ Board. To hold an intermediate and final examination at the end of each year would not cost as much as to hold two finals, one in June and one in November, and would be better calculated to obtain the objects for which the Plumbers’ Board existed. It was dexu C L to communicate to this effect to the Plumbers' Advisory Board
