HUGE BLUNDER MADE. BOOKS OF LIVY. 0ABL1—P&XBB ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Sept. 19, 11.40 n.m. rn ROME, Sept. 18. Jhe mystery of the missing books of Livy has been finally cleaved up, A report, accompanied by a signed statement by Martino Fusco, has been presented to the Minister for Education by the Inspector-General of Sthte Archives, which says that while examining the State archives in Naples Martino Fusco found a document dated December 23, 1332, which was already hell known, wherein King Robert of Anjou ordered payment to the scribe Paolino for the transcription of 10 looks of Livy on the Macedonian wav. Martino Fusco, - not being versed in mediaeval doenments, thought that Paolino s copy was not restricted to 10 known books, but referred to the complete text of Livy’s works. The professor continued his researches, meantime lightly assuring his friends that he had found all tho missing condices and had already begun the transliteration of the second ten. Martmo Fusco’s statement admits that he followed a false scent, and formally retracts all his previous statements about the lost books. The Minister of Education does, not doubt the bona fides of the statement, but intends to watch developments with a view if necessary, of preserving the State’s rights to treasure trove.—Reuter.
