The above is a simple, device that may be used at a foot-driven carborundum wheel, and, by simple adjustment, will take a circular saw, and the uses to which these may be put on the farm are many. Should a treadle not be required, a pulley on the drive shaft would enable connection with the milking motor. The driving wheel needs to weigh about lcwt., because the heavier it is the greater is the power obtained. The wheel should be not less than 2ft Gin in diameter and the pulley on the spindle should be 24in to 3in in diameter. These measurements will produce about 1000 revolutions of the stone a minute. The key to the letters accompanying the diagram is as follows:—A, treadle; 33, driving wheel; C, carborundum stone; D, pulley on spindle; E, belt about 2in across; F, bench; (j, driving wheel; H, bearings of cranlc shaft; I, cranks (two are better than one); J, fiveeighth inch iron, about Gin. long, hooked on cranks at one end and hooked to the treadle at the other; K, where the treadle is hinged.
