KEEPING OF ACCOUNTS
PROTEST TO MINISTER
(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 18. A deputation from the Trades and Labour Council waited on the Hon. G. J. Anderson to enter a protest against any interference with the keeping of union accounts. Speakers , mentioned the regulations which were proposed, and also the demand from the Commissioner of Taxes to supply certain information regarding union members. : Tlie Minister said he had to do with the latter. °
The deputation said a number of proposals, such as, recording the names nf those attending meetings and the reading of the minutes by persons other than secretaries, were impracticable. Generally, the proposals were looked on with distrust, and it was felt that an attempt was being made to procure information which would be us ® d to ,£ h< ; of unions , 7h f Minister, in reply; said there had been no allusion to the regulations m his letter There had heen defalcations and all they wanted, to do was to protect union members. He was not thinking of. secretaries' at all. They dul not care how the money was spent so long as the members knew.
