After a hearing lasting some days His Honour Mr. Justice McGregor granted a decree nisi tp Arthur Blai cher, who sought a divorce from his wife on the grounds of adultery with Hayden Algar, a well-known resident. Evidence was given that respondent and co-respondent had stayed at the United Service Hotel, Christchurch, as Mr. and Mrs. Algar. His Honour, in summing up, made caustic comment on the conduct of the co-respondent, who, he said, had not gone into the box and refuted the charges, if, as alleged by counsel, they were false, hut had sat and smiled as though the whole thing was a variety show.

Damages totalling £2OO were awarded. A motion was made for a new trial.
