Tlie task of lowering the boats, was most difficult. One capsized, and- the occupants were in the water, for half an hour before they were picked y 'up by the captain’s boat. A fireman, one of the capsized lot, was dashed against the rocks, and died after his rescue.

Four adults and two children, passengers on the boat, with 75 members of the crew, were afloat for two; hours before they were rescued by the destroyer Sea Wolf.
