RIVERLEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

HALL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Hall Committee was held on Monday evening,. Mr B. L. Webby presiding. Other members present were: Messrs J. A... Symes, H. Hooper, E. Hooper, J. Gibson, F. Schmidt, A. Gibson, C. Slater, W. Hey, and M. F. Voullaire. Correspondence re new insurances on the hall was received from the Taranaki Farmers’ Mutual Fire Insurance Association, and the secretary reported arrangements made by the ‘ chairman and himself re same. On the motion of' Mr H. Hooper, seconded by Mr Symes, the action of the chairman and secretary was confirmed.

On the motion of Mr H. Hooper, seconded by Mr J. Gibson, Mr W. Dew was elected a member of the Hall Society.

The matter of getting a few, extra matters attended to whilst the carpenters were on the job was discussed at length, and it was eventually resolved to leave these in the hands of the Building Committee to arrange. The matter of holding a function to mark the reopening of the hall was discussed, and on the motion of Mr A. Gibson, seconded by Mr Schmidt, it was resolved to hold a grand plain and fancy dress masquerade ball on a date to be fixed later, but about the middle of October, . secretary • was instructed to insert a preliminary advertisement in the Star, and to call next meeting when necessary. GENERAL NOTES. The weather, so far, has been very favourable, and grass is well ahead of the usual growth at this time of the year, as also is the supply of milk at the factory. Tests just now are, as usual in September, rather low, and range from 3.3 to 4.8, the majority running at 3.7 to^.S. Considerable rain fell on Tuesday, and kept on till Wednesday morning. Towards that evening the weather improved, and the glass commenced to nse more rapidly, though its downward trend ceased at noon on Tuesday, and a steady rise set in from sunset on Tuesday. The .ground has had a liberal soaking, and bne occasionally sees a little mud.

The contractor is making good progress, with the work at the hall, and will probably finish by the end of next week, though, of course, it may. be a bit later. When completed tfie hall will be quite up to date, though a year or so will elapse before all that the committee desires to do will be an accomplished fact. There is a fair amount of sickness in the district just now, especially amongst the younger children, chiefly whooping cough of a rather virulent type, and the infant department at the school is somewhat depleted owing to the number remaining at home.
