A Masterton Press Association telegram states that the death occurred this morning of Mr. Frank Percy, the well known breeder of Lincolns and Romneys, and one of the best judges of these sheep in the Dominion.

Colonel Greenhough, who represents the firm of Armstrong, Whitworth and Co. in New Zealand, will be in New Plymouth on Monday to confer wiGi the Harbour Board on. matters connected with the future development of the port.

A gentleman well known in the Whangarei district, Mr. John Hugh McKenzie, died on Saturday, aged 68. Mr. McKenzie arrived in New Zealand in IS6O with his parents, who were settlers from Nova Scotia. They came across in the Ellen Lewis, and settled at Kauri, in .the Whangarei district.

Dr. M. M. Hoc-kin, assistant medical superintendent at the Waikato Hospitay, has resigned his position to accept a very attractive offer of a practice in Kaponga, (Taranaki) says a Northern paper. The departure of . Dr. Hoc-kin will leave a. place hard, to fill, and it wa<s only with the deepest regret that the resignation was accepted. Dr. Hockin was formerly for a time ,a.t Manaia.

The death took place at the Pa tea. Hospital on Friday of Mr Wm. Murray, a former resident of the Patea and Waverley districts. • The deceased, m spite of his advanced age (63 years), volunteered for active service in the late war, and took part in several engagements on the Western font. On Tuesday morning His Excellency the Governor-General paid ah informal visit to Colonel Ellis, who for some time has been confined to'his room. It. was at the Masonic, function on Monday evening that His Excellency heard of Colonel Ellis’, long association with Masonic fraternity, and of his inability to be present at. the gathering, and the kindly feeling which prompted a personal call was, needless ,to say, very keenly appreciated.—News. A pioneer of the Kawhia district, Mr. John Davies, died recently, in his eightieth year. Born at Swiriton, Wales, lie arrived in Canterbury in the ship Douglas in' the ’fifties, removing to Midhirst, Taranaki,’ in 1882. He subsequently went to Australia, occupying the position of inspector of railway buildings in Victoria. On his return to New Zealand in 1900 he joined' his eldest son in carving out a home at Oparau, Kawhia, renftiining in the district until his death.

On the occasion of his departure to take up an appointment with the Eltham Argus, Mr. E. C. Powell, who has been a member of the reporting staff of the Lyttelton Times and Star for. the past twelve months was the recipient of a presentation from members of the literary staffs on a recent afternoon. Mr. A. B. Lane, news editor of the Lyttelton Times and Star made the presentation, and referred to the assiduous manner in which Mr. Powell had carried out his duties, and wished him the best of good fortune in his future career. Mr, Powell suitably responded.

Mr. August Frederick Knofflock, of Inglewood, who died at the New Plymouth public hospital on Monday at the age of 74 years, came .out, to New .Zealand forty-nine years ago. He was-bne of the pioneers of Inglewood, having taken up his residence there over thirty years ago. Mr. Knofflock interested himself in farming in the Inglewood district until three - or "four years ago,, when lie retired. He leaves a family of eight sons and four daughters.
