RIFLE SHOOTING.
OPENING OF SEASON. A good muster turned out at the opening of the Patea Rifle Club’s meeting on Saturday, those' presentincluding several new members. Visitors from Waverly and Manutahi Clubs were also presertt. All the shooting was done at the 300yds range, which is recognised as the hardest of the short ranges; consequently the scores, with one exception, were not biothough the new member* did particularly well for the first time out. A sweepstake match was carried out, in conjunction with the shoot, Rifleman L. Irvine (Waverley) proving the winner, with the good sore of 65 for the two shoots—a fine elfort. President Palmer was runner-up, with 60, and Rifleman Webster (Waverley) took third prize, with 59. A trophy for the best tyro was won by Rifleman H. Palmer, with a, score of 59, while, the trophies for the new members were won by M. Hoult (48) and H. Smith - (47), respectively.—Press. '
