DWELLING DESTROYED
(BY TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) a BLENHEIM, Sept. 15. A six-roomed dwelling, owned and occupied by W. Broadbent at Springlands, was completely destroyed by fire last night. Practically nothing was saved - The insurance on the building was £9OO m the Phoenix, and on the £HTl u t ur ® £350 in the New Zealand Office. The adjacent house caught fire, but the brigade effected a good save. Ihe damage, to the second house is iand it is insured for £SOO in ihe State Office.
THEFT ADMITTED
. AUCKLAND, Sept. 15. Eric Thompson, aged 21. was charged at the Police Court to-dav with the theft of £412 7s 6d, the prooertv of W. and R, Fletcher, Ltd. He' pleaded gualty, and in a statement to the police said he had taken the money at various times, hoping to repay it. He spent it on pleasures. He was committed for sentence. Bail was fixed at £SOO.
THE LYTTELTON TUNNEL
CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 15. A public meeting to-night, attended by about 100 representatives of the town and country interests, adopted a resolution urging upon the Government the imperative necessity for the immediate duplication of the Lyttelton tunnell and the electrification of the port railway line, and that effect should he given without delay to the repeated recommendations in this 'connection of the general managers of railways during the last decade. The Mayor of Christchurch presided and supporting speeches were made by representatives of the Progress League. Chamber of Commerce, and other civic and provincial organisations and local bodies.
