TOWN BOARD ELECTIONS
Town board elections will be held tomorrow, and it is encouraging to note that judging by the nominations for Normanbv and Opunake greater interest is being taken in these local bodies than; has sometimes been the case. Town, boards have in the past done very good work for the communities whom they serve and, though in these days of progress and development some of their activities have been swallowed up in major schemes, there are still opportunities for town boards to serve their districts faithfully and well. The control and upkeep of roads and the setting up and administration of by-laws for the welfare of the people as a .whole.c-ome within the province of town boards, while in some eases water and drainage systems have been undertaken and carried out successfully, the town boards showing a meritorious business capacity and knowledge worthy of larger local bodies. The condition of such towns as Manaia, Kaponga and Opunake, which are under town board control is a tribute to the excellent services rendered by these bodies in past years. These are days when local bodies are experiencing difficulties inseparable from the shortage of money. Sometimes people who do not take the 'trcfifole to record their votes become the greatest critics s of the boards when elected. There is no excuse for electors not exercising their privilege, and we hope that the polling Avill indicate that the people of the areas- controlled bv town boards have a real interest,' in the places „in which they live and V desire that they shall be controlled by representatives who stand for progress and are prepared, to work hard to help, in building up their districts.
