AUSTRALASIAN TITLE. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ■ HAMILTON, Sept. 11. In.view of the sculling race Hannan versus Arnst, fixed for October. 25, on the Y\ aikato River, a controversy Inis arisen in reference to tlie claim for the Australasian title. To-day G. Ccruti, as hon secretary, publishes a. letter from the New South Wales Sculling League, which, in effect, confirms the cable- message claiming that McDev.it t, is the Australasian champion. lla 11 nall in reply, refers to H. Cleat’s published interview' oil behalf of the Auckland committee controlling the HannanMcDevitt race on the Waitemata, iii which Cleal stated that McDev'itt- admitted after Hannan had beaten him that Hannan was champion, deal, in closing the interview, said he would like to inform Oeruti, who was then in Auckland, that the able and reputable body iii existence was quite capable of conducting Australasian championships without Ceruti’s assistance.
