EMPIRE AFFAIRS.

DOMINIONS’ CONFERENCE.

IRELAND CAUSES DELAY

BY ■ CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT

Received Sept. 11 } 12.35 p.m. T . LONDON, Sept. 10. Ireland is delaying the Dominions’ Conference. Every Dominion has acceptecL Mr Thomas’ invitation, except the Irish Free State. Australia and New Zealand are agreeable to October or November, preferably October; South Africa suggests February, while Canada and Newfoundland are agreel • ar *y time because. they are within reachable distance. The reason for the-Free State’s hesitancy is that v ls , moi ' e immediately concerned with the .boundary question, pending a decision hi which it does not favour participation in inter-imperial affairs. Ihe Colonial Office, strongly emphasises that the purpose of the conference is only consultative. It will be restricted solely to foreign affairs, and will prepare the basis of a report to he presented to the next Imperial Conference, probably in 1925. Fending unanimous acceptance the Colonial Office is deferring preparation of the agenda,— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
