PERSISTENT BEES.
CHARMED BY A CLOCK TOWER
There is an interesting example at Micheldeyer, Hants (England), of the fascination a place has for bees if they have once swarmed in it. For at least 30 years swarms of bees have made the school clock tower their home, and although from time to time the bees have been killed, the place carefully disinfected, and the hole they have made in the clock face filled witli cement, a fresh swarm has always come every year and. eaten through the cement to the old spot. Last year they also swarmed on the window of a house opposite, and made their way inside the wall through some old woodwork. They were removed in the autumn, and this place was also cemented, but a new lot of bees arrived this season and took up tlie same position as the old ones. A bucketful of honey was taken from the house wall, and the honey found in the clock tower the last time it was cleared amounted to some hundredweights.
