MOTOR VEHICLES BILL.

HAWBWA COUNTY’S POSITION

The provisions of the proposed Motor Vehicles Bill by no means meet with the approval of the Hawera County Council, who point out that in annual license fees alone about £4OOO will be collected each year in the Hawera County, the greater proportion of which will be spent on roads in some other part of the Dominion. In addition to this there will be a direct loss of registration fees to the county, which fees are collected from both borough and county at the present time. . The only revenue the county will collect will be the 5s drivers’ license fees of applicants in the county. The county clerk (Mr. ,T. W. Harding). speak in 2 at Saturday’s meeting of the council, said that during the last five years the council had collected in registration fees for cars and motor cycles £735, or an average of £147 per annum. Owing to the fact that registration fees and license fees for all motor vehicles woujd be collected by the Government if the Bill were passed, it appeared that this amount of £147 per annuni would be a direct loss to the couny.
