It overwhelmingly rejected a resolution submitted by the Wintmg and Bookbinding Union, referring to the. trade union difference on the subjects of free trade, protection :.nd Imperial preference, and asking the general council to approach the Labour Party with a view to establishing a joint committee to investigate industries separately and report to the next congress. Mr Cook (Miners’ Federation) said the resolution was the most dangerous c.ne that had been submitted lo the congress, while Mr Macnamara, on behalf of the textile workers of Lancashire, opposed the resolution. The Congress passed a resolution affirming its determined opposition to compulsory arbitration.
