FIRE.
GIRLS’ SCHOOL DESTROYED. (EY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) MART,ON, Sept. 6. the.Ngatawa Girls’ Diocesan School, a large wooden building, was destroyed by fire sliortly after I o’clock today. When discovered the fire had astrong hold on the junior dormitory on the ground floor, where there had been no fire for 10 days. An attendant gave the house alarm, but was prevented by. flames from ringing the brigade, who were notified by a motorist.
The building was a seething mass of flames when the brigade arrived, but good work was done, though the water pressure was hopelessly inadequate. \ olunteer workers assisted the brigade in saving a fair amount of belongings in the school, and did great work in saving the gymnasium, with its contents, the bungalow, and the sanatorium.
