WAR IN MOROCCO
SERIOUS SITUATION
BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHI LONDON, Sept. 5. The Tangiers correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says the news from Tetuan is serious. Following ,on a report that a garrison of four hundred is surrounded at Gorgues a column was despatched from Tetuan, but it encountered dense and accurate fire from the Moors while ascending a track between hills. It is admitted officially that 75 were killed and 100 wounded, while unofficially it is reported that 600 are missing. On the following day guns and batteries- at and near Tetuan were heavily bombarded from the hills across the plain, and ■ the troops advanced, only to. retire. A small body of mountaineers approached Tetuan on Wednesday evening and fired on the town, wounding several civilians and causing a panic. Another column is being despatched to the relief of the Gorgues garrison.
MADRID, Sept. 6. A large proportion of the Directory has gone to Tetuan, comprising Senoi de Riviera and Generals Jordane, Musleva, and Pedre.
