RIVERLEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Locally things have been fairly quiet lately. A fortnight ago Mr L. H. McAlpine, organiser for the . Farmers’ Union, addressed a meeting of local members, Mr B. L- Webby presiding. Mr McAlpine’s address was on the same lines as that reported in the Star as delivered at Mangatoki. At the conclusion of the meeting a resolution favouring the establishment of an agricultural bank was moved by Mr H. J. Johns, seconded; by the chairman, and carried. A vote of thanks to Mr McAlpme was carried by acclamation.

On Tuesday evening the monthly meeting of the School Committee was held, Mr B. L. Webby, chairman, presiding, and all other members being present. There was little business to be done, and only a couple of accounts to deal with, and these were passed for payment subject to being verified by the headmaster. The chairman reported that the garden had been fenced and that a satisfactory job had been made.

The factory, which turned from butter to cheese on August 16, reverted to butter again three days later, and continued till the end of the - month, when cheesemaking again commenced. The supply is increasing rapidly, and last tests range from 3.4 to 4.9.

Mr V. C. Flack, contractor for the additions and improvements to the local hall, has commenced on the job, and is making good progress with the work. When completed the building will be a very great improvement on the old one.

We have been experiencing beautiful

weather, and the warm sun has put some warmth into the ground, which should prove beneficial now that the rain has commented. Feed is growing slowly, but should improve rapidly in a short time.
