The rebellion is the outcome of a movement for .reform in the system of Government, but is receiving scant tribal support. , Advices from Peshawur state that one of the leaders of the reform movement u r as stoned to death in prison at Kabul after being tortured for over a month. The rebellion is under the leadership of the ‘ pretender to the Afghan throne.

BRITISH OFFICER MURDERED. DELHI, i(3ept. 4. Lieut. Lawrence, of the West Yorks, attached to the Yamen infantry, and assistant political agent, was murdered at Perim. His property w r as rifled and stolen. It is believed to be the •work of Arab irregulars.
