MAGISTRATE’S WARNING.
.DRUNKEN MOTORIST FINED. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DAWGAYILLE. Sept. 5. At the Magistrate’s Court a. man named Cornelus McCarthy, butcher, was fined £lO and costs for being drunk-when in charge- of a- motor car. Defendant’s solictor pleaded that- it was hi.s first offence and asked the magistrate to inflict a fine. The magistrate, in reply, said that he had taken into consideration the man’s previous good 'character, but a £lO fine was inadequate in cases of this kind. Magistrates all over the Dominion were now imprisoning without the option of a fine, and An future cases imprisonment would be the punishment without respect to ,the person or persons, and he hoped the present case which was the first of the kind m the district, would be a warning.
