TENNIS.

THE DAVIS CUP. FRANCE AND AUSTRALIA. BY OA BLIP—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Sept. 4/ 9.55 a.m. L NEW YORK, Sept. 3. jin the Davis Cup semi-final between France and Australia the singles draw for the first day is Patterson v. Lacoste and Wood v. Borotra. The singles games for the third; day are Patterson v" Borotra and Wood v. Lacoste. The doubles draw will be made tomorrow, and will probably be Patterson and Wood against Lacoste and Borotra. / The matches will probably be played at the Lanewood Cricket Club’s grounds, beginning in, the afternoon. Schlesinger and Patterson and Wood and ;Kals are practising to-day. Very heavy showers fell last night, breaking the recent: heat wave and bringing a very .cold windy term, making- play uncomfortable and the courts soggy. Patterson, in explaining- Johnston’s victory, declared that he was unwilling to endeavour to carry ' the match to five sets, preferring to husband his strength for the Davis' Cup, in view of the great heat. Observers here declare that Lacoste shows so much improvement oyer last year’s form that he is likely to win one of the singles matches against the Australians. The consensus of opinion is that Australia should win the remainder of the doubles.—Aus.-N.55. Cable Assn.
