HOCKEY.

THE NELSON TOURNAMENT

(by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NELSON, Sept. 3. The only play in the ladies’ hockey tournament to-day was that this afternoon in the, B section j the games being fought out in fine weather conditions and with a large attendance of the public. The match Nelson B and Buffer was a very tame affair, but in the games Ruahine v. Auckland and Southland v. Hawke’s Bay great interest centred, as the section winner will be found in this quartette. Play in both games was of a bright description, and the wins respeptively of Southland and Ruahine were well deserved. The former dominated most of the game against Hawke’s Bay and were clever, playing also with more judgment. Auckland held Ruahine in the first spell with no. score, but the latter lasted best and ran out rather easy winners.

Results: Nelson B (1) heat Buffer (ml); Southland (3) heat Hawke’s Bay (1),; Ruahine (4) lie at Auckland (nil).
