BOWLING.

/ (From Our Own Correspondent.)

OPUNAKE CLUB

The annual meeting of members of the bowling club was held on Friday evening, Mr. Graham Hammond presiding, over a large attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, which again showed a credit balance, the president congratulated members on the success of the past season’s play. The green had, however, proved somewhat disappointing, but promised to be in good order for the coming year. The motion was carried after a brief discussion. A total of nineteen new members were elected.

Mr. G. Feaver proposed the motion of which notice had been given by Mr. Pretsch, viz: “That new members who have not previously played bowls be charged a subscription fee of 30s for the first year.”—Seconded by Mr. Hinch., and carried. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. G. Feaver; vice-presidents, Messrs A. Hinch and W. E. Gunson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Harrigan; green wardens, Messrs A..F. Hinch and J. Kirkwood; selector, Mr, J. P. Burton; refreshment committee. Messrs T. Schneller and J. Wilson; delegate to centre, Mr. G. Feaver; .general committee, Messrs J. P. Burton, C. A. Smith, R. Walker, T. Schneller, and W. 0. Webby. Mr. C. A. Smith referred to the antiquated building that was serving as a pavilion, and urged that every effort should be made to have a modern pavilion erected.

Mr. Feaver said that members had for some years realised that better appointments should be erected. Funds had been raised by different means for that purpose, but it had been deemed advisable to expend the money on the green. _.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the ladies for their attention on match days, and a similar vote to the outgoing officers. Special mention was made of the services of Mr. Harrigan as secretary, and it was resolved that he be appointed an honorary member for the season. . , *
