The course was in good order, but somewhat dead after recent rains, the attendance was large for this season of the year, but speculation *■ was not quite as brisk as one would expect. Racing opened with the Trial Handicap, for which event Slump (£365) was a big favourite. The next in order of the betting were: Purseproud (£150) and- Bonogue- From -a fair send-off Tutankhamen was the first to move, but Purseproud soon took chaise and followed by AVestbrokef Azecta’ lutankhamen and Kanaka led into the straight. In the run home Purseproud easily held his lead, to beat Westbroke easily, with Azecta aiid Kanaka next Brigadier Bill. (£515), Demand , and Alaric (about £390 each) were the best supported for the' Hack Hurdles. When the tapes rose Landbird and Suspicion took up the role of pacemakers and led Brigadier Bill over most of the journey. furlongs, from home Brigadier Bill got to the front, but wiis very lucky to beat Alaric, which was not well handled. Landbird and Crown Coin did the best of the other runners. For the Spring Hack Mountain Signal was made a very big favourite, and, patiently ridden, may have beaten Tanadees, for after holding off four or five challengers Mountain Signal was headed by Tanadees over the last couple of chains. Dominant finished on • place, and Opa was an indifferent fourth.

Diamond Ring (£590) was a better favourite than the seasoned Arch Salute (£slo)^for the Marton Handicap. Correspondent, too, with £390 counted on plenty of support. From a capital start Megan was first to break the line, and followed by Black Cruiser, Diamond Ring, L’Amour, and Cleasanta led past the stand. Half a mile from home Megan was just in front of L’Amour and Black Cruiser. 'A little further on L’Amour took charge, but at the home turn Diamond Ring was on terms. Once in the straight Diamond Ring went to the front, but Arch Salute immediately challenged, and getting the best of a short struggle won well. Black Cruiser finished, on well to beat L’Amour for third place. Stork “tailed off” in the early stages, but finished well in fifth place.

Guanaco Avas installed a good favourite for the ' Hack Steeplechase, but fell after going a few furlongs, while Gamecock, Oneroa Bonibrook, Mahia, and Ringi comprised the leading division passing the stand, then Ringi and Bonibrook took* up leading positions, but five furlongs from home Blue Hall headed Bonibrook, and making no mistakes thereafter, won all out from Bonibrook by a couple of lengths, with Mahia a good thud, and Ringi 100 yards off fourth During the running Whizz Bang broke a fetlock, and Price and Silk Rein fell.

Ilka (£/20; was a nrunounced favour* the Electric, Fools’ Paradise (£410) and Dangle (£285) following in order or favouritiem. From a poor r rushed to the front and, followed by Troilus, Ilka and Lucrative, led into the straight. In the run over the last furlong Dangle ran on well and won easily from' Moscari, which finished fast and cut Ilka andr?Lucrative out of second place.

Ladv Bentinck (£800) was an “even money’’ favourite, for the Railway. Of the other starters Startle (£425) and Prince Abbey (£380) were- the best _■ i p When the tapes rose> Ladv Bentinck began well, and led Quest, Prince Abbey and Startle over half mile. Bumptious ran fourth. lhe racing concluded with the Tutaenui Welteir, for which Mountain Bell and Lady .Joyce were evenly supported.
