The tallow stocks total 4468 casks, the imports during Augufet being 1638 and deliveries 1938. LOAN FOR BELGIUM. BRUSSELS, Sent. 1. The Government has arranged a 6-1 per cent, loan of 30,000,000 dollars from the United States, redeemable in twenty-live years. It is stated that the loan is to be. utilised for withdrawing Treasury bonds issued in the United States in 1920. SHARE MARKET. AUCKLAND, Sept. 2. CANTERBURY MARKETS. (by telegraph—press association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 2. The grain and produce market continues dull. The Rakanoa leaves for Auckland to-night with a small consignment of potatoes and the Wanaka is du,e to sail on Saturday. Business locally for prompt delivery is being clone on the basis of £5 to £5 5s f.o.b. sacks in for whites, and offers to farmers are from £3 15s to £4 a ton. At this price few potatoes are offering. Several • districts are reported to have cleared their tubers. Oats and chaff remain about ‘ the same, and with the exception of inquiry for peas to fill an early shipment there is very little business passing. In seeds there is another Id per bushel increment to wheat from the Ist of this month. LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date 30th ult.: New Zealand frozen meat: Lamb, 12d per lb (average); mutton, prices unchanged ; market firm. Last quotations (August 22): Wether and maiden ewe, light 84d per lb, heavy 73d; ewe, light 6fd, heavy old. The Bank of New Zealand produce department has received the following advice from its London office, under date 29th ult.: Butter quiet at 204 s to 2065. Cheese steady; white 945, coloured 91s to 925, stored parcels ls to 2s per lb less. Frozen meat: Moderate business has. been done in wether mutton and the market is firm. The market for ewes is quiet, hut firm. The market for lambs has advanced and prices are likely to be maintained. No quotations for beef.
