MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
CARNIVAL QUEEN
The social and dance held in the Pihama Hall last Wednesday night in aid of the Manaia town queen was a great success. There were present from all parts of the district. The hall was beautifully decorated with blue and gold streamers, which gave the interior of the hall a very nice appearance. This was in the hands of Messrs. B. Duffy, A. Clark, H. E. Keighley, Duncan, Pollock, A. Willcocks and J. Conaglen. A very nice supper was provided by the ladies, the committee consisting of Misses Pollock, Conaglen, Mesdames Rielly, C. Horgan, Conaglen and Glengarry. The duties of M.C. were very ably carried out by Messrs. Allan Campbell and Pollock, who looked after all and made sure that they were well catered for. The music for the dance was supplied by Miss IM. Long (piano), Messrs. Turner (violin), T. Hotter (euphonium), and J, A. G. Cosgrove (cornet), which was much appreciated. Extras were played by willing helpers during the evening. Encores w-ere frequent. The social was considered one of the best held/ this year in the hall. Great credit is certainly due to the energetic committee, and especially the secretary (Mr Pollock) for their splendid efforts. The financial result was most (satisfactory.
