FORMER NEW ZEALAND TEACHER

WIFE STILL IN AUCKLAND

(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 1. There is an even greater element of tragedy in the death of Edward Power, formerly headmaster of the Whangarei school, than the cablegram from South Africa suggests. The cablegram refers to liis attempt to murder his - wife, but his wife is still in Auckland. Edward Power, who was about 52 years of age, was a teacher under the Auckland Education Board for about thirty years. He was for some years in the Hokianga district, and subsequently at WaiorongomSi, near Te Aroha. In 1906 he was appointed headmaster at Te Kuiti, and occupied that position till 1919, when he was appointed headmaster at Whangarei. About three years ago Power resigned his position at Whangarei and left the Dominion, his whereabouts being unknown to his most intimate friends. He left an adult family of six and his wife in the Dominion. Deceased was well-known in bowling circles, having skipped teams in the Auckland and Dominion tournaments on numerous occasions. His father was a well-known hotel-keeper at Paeroa and Waihi for many years, A brother, the late Mr. Bert Power, was formerly Mayor of Waihi
