MALE CHOIR CONCERT.

WANGANUI PROGRAMME. TUESDAY, AT OPERA HOUSE. A special attraction is notified for the concert to .be given under the. aegis of the Hawera Male Choir on iuesday evening, for the programme will be supplied by the Wanganui Choir. They had their own concert in Wanganui this week, and scored a striking success. The programme to be given is practically a replica of that given last Tuesday. * Haw’era people nave heard the etioir previously, and know their capability and also the able control of the conductor, Mr L. Craig who has shown a great gift of drawing from the choir very fine vocal effects. Critics in Wanganui agree that the choir have never sung better or reached a higher standard in their work than this year. All the features of good choral singing are present in their performance. It will be a special attraction. Their numbers include several very fine part songs: “Mosquitoes,” which may be described as nomotopoeia, sound imitation; “Fallen Heroes,” a dramatic setting of the tale of the Spartans at Thermopylae; Greig’s choral ballad “Recognition of Land,” and in lighter vein a negro melody “Deep River”; the well-known “Funiculi Funicula”; and a inarch chorus, “The Mulligan Musketeers.” With them will be several artists of outstanding ability—Mrs Leo. Campion, a fine contralto, a New Zealand gold medallist; Mr Trevor Thomas, a baritone with a voi.ee of outstanding quality; Mr W. Robertson, a popular Wanganui tenor; and Mr Orren Hales, a gifted and versatile elocutionist. It will thus he seen that the evening’s performance on Tuesday will' he one that must appeal to all tastes. The Opera House is certain to be filled to overflowing with an enthusiastic audience.
