FAILURE FINANCIALLY. TRUE PURPOSE ACHIEVED. Jtr CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT Received Aug. 29, 11.45 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 28. Referring to statements in the press that the Pageant of Empire at Wembley resulted in a loss of £60,000, Mr LuUn, Parliamentary Secretary for Overseas Trade, said that of the £IOO,OOO expended on the pageant part was furnished through the generosity of Sir Harold Bowden and part by the Government, The total receipts were far below that figure, hut 'it was never expected that the nageant would he financially successful. Its object was not merely to entertain, hut to educate and inspire the British public, especially the youth. The pageant from this viewpoint had been most successful, and had attracted record crowds, despite had weather. —Reuter.
