KAPONGA TENNIS CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Kaponga Tennis Club was held in the Town Hall last evening, when Mr C. H. Severn© presided over an attendance of 20. The annual report expressed regret that during the season Messrs P. J. C. Lloyd (president), T. H. Chadwick (hop. secretary and club captain), and C. Stewart (vice-president) had been transferred from Kaponga. Presentations were donated and send-off socials had been arranged for each. A presentation was also made to Miss Tait on the occasion of her marriage. The report further stated that the sum of £25 had been expended on repairs and alterations to the courts and grounds. Unfortunately one of the courts, owing to faulty top-dressing, was again in a bad state, the incoming committee being recommended to employ an experienced man to lay the court down afresh. The advisability of purchasing tar pefuse for spreading at the end of the courts to prevent the growth of fern and weeds and of raising the backs of the courts to the asphalt level was also pointed out. The courts had again been open for winter play, a number of members having taken advantage of the opportunity to keep in practice. The “A” team had played a total of 11 inter-club matches with Manaia, Opunake, - Eltham, Mnngatoki, and Te Ngutu Clubs, and had been successful in winning eight of the matches. The “B” team had played two. matches against the Convent team,'and were successful on both occasions. The total membership was 64. Tn conclusion, the report expressed the i hope that membership would increase, and that all. present members would he able to take an active part in the game during the coming season. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit balance of £26 4s 6d, showing an increase of £3 7s 5d on the balance In-ought forward from the previous season. On the motion of the chairman the report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Air J. Hessell; vice-presidents, Messrs C. H. Severne, D. Fitzgerald, G. L. Stedman: club captain, Air C. H. Severne; deputy club captain, Mr G. L. Stedman; bon. secretary, Air H. J. Edwards; committee, Mesdames W. H. L. Roberts, C. H. Severne, J. Davison, K. Marx, Aliss E. Law, Alessrs T. R. Lane and J. 11. Adam. A resolution was adopted constituting five of the committee as a quorum. It was decided that the subscription fee be the same as previously. The following were proposed for membership: Messrs S. Death, J. B. Horwood, L. J. Loftns. J. Tyack, C\ E. Betts, and AY. H. James. A vote of thanks. accorded the ladies’ committee in appreciation of their kindness in providing afternoon tea and in entertaining visiting players during the season, was carried by acclamation.
