NOT PLAYING THE GAME

HOW YORKSHIRE WINS

By CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.

(Received Aug. 29, 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 28. The Daily Mail says that following an enquiry into certain happenings when Yorkshire was playing Middlesex, resulting in Yorkshire’s apology, Surrey is lodging a complaint against incidents in the Leeds match, asserting that Yorkshire did not play the game. Yorkshire’s conduct has long been common talk in every county pavilion. Of numerous allegations the first, is that Yorkshire bowlers endeavoured to cut up the pitch at one end with a view to helping the bowler at the other end. Secondly, that Yorkshire players near the wicket deliberately set themselves to talk out the batsmen by passing comments at psychological moments. The Surrey committee is considering the protests.—Sydney Sun Cables.

SOUTH AFRICA v. SOMERSET. (Received Aug. 29, 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 28. The South Africans in their first innings against Somerset made 268 (Tavlor 45, Catterall 90). Bridges took *6 wickets for 61. Somerset in their second innings made 138, and the South Africans in their second innings made 79 for one wicket, and won by nine wickets.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
