(1* l'oin Our Own Correspondent). DANCE. lhe iocal • Lancashire and Yorkshire Association held a very successful concert and dance m the Awatuiui. hall on 1< nday evening last. As is always the case with functions held under the direction ol the association, a iarae assemblage was present. Ai, r W. \T. Lonsdale controlled the 'vocal items, and from the programme submitted the lollowing items were enthusiastically leceiveo:—Song, Airs Alty, “The Song that. Reached my Heart”’; recitation, Mrs Alty, “The Traveller’s ?tury”: song, Mr Lonsdale, “Till the Sands of the Desert Grow Cold”; song, Mils Birtwistle, ’Robin Adair,” and for encore “Wherever You Are”; song, Air W . Hey, “Plymouth Hoe” ; song, Mr J. Parkinson, “Alary.” A well enjoyed introduced by the “verastile l r our” in a nigger minstrel stunt viz.. Mr J. Parkinson as “Ruebeii,” Mr W. Turner as “Rastus,” A.lr A. Riley as “Razz;,’' and Air J. .Riley as “Sambo.” ,o very well, particularly “Sambo.” who seemed to be the life ol the party. “Sambo,” in one of his songs. “Swim, Sam, Swim,” endeavoured to draw the audience into the chorus, but the song, as the title indicates. became too strenuous.
kor the dancing music was supplied by the association’s orchestra, consisting of Alessrs E. Parkinson (piano). J. Riley (cornet), YY. Turner ‘ and A. Bilcy (violins), whilst extras were contributed by Misses Street and Edith Hey. J lie duties of Al’s.C. were ahlv carried out bv Alessrs W . Rev and T. Haworth. FARMERS’ UNION. During the past fortnight a svteinatic canvass for members of the banners’ Union has been carried out by the Union’s organiser. Air L. .H. McAlpine. the result of which. I understand. has been a ready response from local tanners. Mr AfeA.lpine will give an address in the Awatuiia Hall on Saturday evening. 30th ' inst.. in' furtherance ot the claims of the union, and all banners are asked to be present. It is probable a branch of tlie banners’ Union will be formed as a result of the meeting referred to. GENERAL. The Awatuna Dairy Company arc at piesent making butter at both factories, and will continue making this article for a further week or so. The milk supply is now .commencing to increase. and will rapidly do so after the end of the month.
