STEAMER HELD UP. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 24. The steamer Waiotapu, which was delayed in port for nearly 24 hours by the action of the crew, sailed on Saturday afternoon. The strike was apparently the union's new idea of enforcing its wishes. It is understood the union was entirely responsible for the hold-up, the men themselves being quite willing to sail, but they were obeying instructions. The strike was the outcome of a recent court case, in which an employee of the Union Company was prosecuted on a charge of supplying seamen and not being legally entitled to do so. The‘union contends the man is still interesting himself in the supply of seamen. NEW COAL OUTCROP. WESTPORT, Aug. 24. .The Cascade coal mining party has discovered a further important outcrop of coal adjoining the present area. The coal will come down through a fluming into the Buller Gorge, connecting there with the railway yet to be constructed.
