HOCKEY.
The final between Hawera Rabler.s ancl Stratford Technical High School produced an excellent match, in which much good form was shown. The Sti atford girls are entitled to much Credit and commendation for their good record. In presenting the shield alter the match the president gave some interesting particulars. Hexsaid inter alia : During two full seasomKthe team had scored 115 goals, and liad had only nine scored against them, nhen it was remembered that there uere 19 ladies’ teams in the competition, it would be recognised that the team had put up no mean performance. In the interests of the game lie thought it would be better if the same three teams were not called upon to fio-ht out the championship year after year, liie tact had been impressed upon him that at the finish of the divisional matches the same teams were victorious year after year. Replying on behalf of the team, Mr R. Amess (director) said the shield had been hard won, but even* endeavour would he made to retain it at. tiie schofil for many years. He thought it rather a pity that more people were not present to see the game that afternoon. In hockey circles more people played the game than watched others playing, and whereas at a football match many thousands could be seen on the grandstands, very few not directly interested in hockey troubled to attend even a play-off. He was pleased the school had won, and felt sure that Hawera members would not grudge the success of the school girls.
