Johnson for the Davis, Cup team, Gerald' Patterson, the Australian captain, 1 interviewed, said : “The naming of Tilden and Johnson came at the psychological moment and set the people’s minds' nfc rest concerning Tilden's playing. It shows the confidence felt in Johnson, despite his defeat at Seahvight. T think the American team will bo stronger this year. “Johnson will be better than last season. He is not in his best shape, duo to not having played on grass, but lie will be at his best in September.; Tilden is always good. “The decision to name two members of the team at this stage is unusual, hut the fact is that the Americans have a. large number of players from whom thev wish to select. The American doubles team will probably he the same as last year, namely, Tiiden and Williams.”
