STOLEN TYRES.
CHARGE OF RECEIVING. (ex telegraph—press association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 22. John Edward Fitzgerald, a wellknown citizen, formerly a motor garage proprietor, was before tlie Supreme Court on his second trial for the alleged receiving ,of stolen motor tyres, valued at £l2O. for the theft of which Rov \Y. Spencer is now serving a sentence ot three- years’ imprisonment. His Honor said Spencer's story of what had taken place had been contradicted, and had not been shaken in cross-examination. Tlie jury had to reconcile the statement with Fitzgerald’s story, which was that he had obtained the motor tyres honestly. Prisoner must have known that the tyres w : ere not obtained honestly. The jury was out for three-quarters of an hour, and returned a verdict of guilty of receiving. Sentence was deferred to Mondav.
