Mr D. K. Morrison, manager of the Taranaki Producers ’ Freezing Compnuy, who has been on a holiday trip to England, is now on his way back, and is expected to arrive in New Plymouth next month.

Mr B. H. fiorner, who has been practising as a civil engineer in Stratford for the past live years, has been appointed engineer and clerk of the Weber County, in Hawke’s Bay, and commences his new duties early next month.

Mr 11. A. Reid, for many years in charge of the Agricultural Department’s Wallaceville Laboratory, is unlikely to return from England, where lie is spending a holiday, and a successor will need to be appointed. Mr Reid did good service with the veterinary division during the war on the Western front. Mr C. S. M. Hopkirk fiMs the position in the meantime. — Press Association.

A Press Association telegram from Dargaville states that the death took place at an early hour on Thursday morning of Mr Donald Pinlhyson, one of tlie earliest and best known' settlers in the district. He was born at Waipu in IBG2, coming to Dargaville 50 years ago. Deceased started life in a humble wav, and at tlie time of his death was the largest landholder in the district. At Patea on Thursday evening Miss B. Lavery, lion, secretary of the local St. John Ambulance Association, was entertained by the Mayoress (Mrs. F. S. Finlayson) at a gathering at which a large number of .members of the association and friends wer.e present. During the course of the evening Mrs. Finlayson, in a very happy speech, expressed the appreciation of one and all of the faith! ul work carried out by bliss Lavery on behalf of the association, and then presented her with a very handsome hand-mirror, brush and comb and clothes brush, the gathering rising and singing “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow,’ ’ following this with three cheers.
