MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
WEEKLY SITTING. Ihe weekly sitting of the Hawera Magistrate's Court was held to-day, Mr. J- S.. Ear ton, S.AI., presiding. DEFENCE CASES. Clarence Hector Reid was charged with failing to register with the Defence authorities. Sergeant Henry said the lad was interviewed at Normanby by Constable Pidgeon, who advised him to call at the Defence office. The lad did so, but gave his name as Clarence Hector, without his surname. To make matters worse the lad had then left the district. but he was later interviewed, when lie then admitetd that his name was Reid. Lieut. Weir, in giving evidence said he considered that the mistake’ had been inadvertent on the nnrt of defendant. His Worship said he would give Reid the benejit of the doubt. A fine of Ids and 7s court costs was imposed. John O’Keefe was also charged with failing to register with the Defence authorities, and a fine of Cl and 7s court costs was imposed. On a similar charge John Henrv Clement was fined £1 and 7s court Costs. BY-LAW CASES. For driving across the intersection oi High and Princes Streets at a speed greater than six miles per hour Ernest Fttinger was fined £2 and 7s court costs. The police estimated the speed across the intersection at fulTy 20 miles per hour. Fisher Rnthie was charged with leaving a car in Regent Street without lights. Constable Mullan said the car was in a dark place and constituted a danger. A fine of £1 and 7s court costs was imposed. .Sjdney John Holder, who was charged with allowing a motor-car to stand in Victoria Street without lights attached was fined 10s and 7 s court costs. Constable Mullan in giving ei idence, said that after being spoken to defendant drove nwnv without a tail light.
