FARMERS’ UNION MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Matapu It ranch of the Farmers' Union was held on Wednesday evening, when Air If. H. Free, (president) presided over a good attendance. A* Mr L. H. McAlpine. one ol the Dominion organisers, was present to address the meeting, it was decided to adjourn discussion of the usual .business.

On lines similar fo his recent lectures, a _ report of which appears on page , air McAlpine addressed the meeting regarding the organisation of the union. In an appeal for n unanimous support to the union, lie stressed the necessity for making it truly representative "in order to place the influence of the whole of the farmers of the Dominion behind the Dominion executive when making representations on t heir-behalf. He'"further referred to the manifold advantages which could he secured to farmers if they would take advantage of theii J opportunities and give the union the requisite nunierieaf strength, and discussed at length the benefits to be obtained through the institution of an agricultural hank as advocated. Dealing with subscriptions <to the. union, he explained the system of collection by means ol orders on dairy comoanies or merchants, who would debit the individual account and credit the branch and headquarters of the union with their respective ouotas. On the conclusion of his address, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: “That this meeting of farmers desires to express its entire faith in the Agricultural Banking Bill promulgated by Mr W. J. Poison (Dominion president), and urges upon the member for the district the. necessity lor leaving no stone unturned to secure the passage of the measure during the present session.” ; The system of subscription collection advocated by Mr McAlpine was accorded the approval of the meeting, a number of those present, whose subscriptions had not already been paid, signing the necessary orders. His appeal for support- of the union’s official journal also met with a good response. 'On the motion of the chairman, a vote of thanks, which was carried hv acclamation, was accorded Mr McAlpine in appreciation of his address. Mr F. Hoskin (vice-president) expressed his intention of entertaining members of the branch at a function to celebrate his success in receiving the Sutton Cup awarded in .the root crops competition, hut stated that before proceeding with any arrangements he would like sonic indication as to the form in which the function would lie most acceptable. After receiving expressions of opinion concerning the matter. Mr Hoskin intimated that it would give him much pleasure to arrange for a social and dance to he tendered to branch members, and friends in the hall on Friday, 29th.
