MANUTAHI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A large gathering of parents assembled at the school on Tuesday, 12th August, to celebrate Arbor Day m a fitting manner. A nice hedge, of ake alee was' planted in the school grounds by teacher,- pupils and members of committee. Speeches suitable to the occasion were given by the chairman (Mr. A. B. Muggeridge) and several others. A bountiful repast in the shape of afternoon tea, with plentv of cakes and sandwiches (provided by the parents and ladies of the district) pleased the youngsters immensely, and they were very sorry when Arbor Day came to. an end. \J Gap year dance was held recently at Manutahi by the single ladies of the distt ict. It must have been very •successful, as after paying expenses the large sum of £5 was netted. The proceeds were devoted to the hall funds.

Gn M'? dl,esd a.y the Manutahi Rifle Ulub held a most successful social and dance for the plirpo.se of presenting the trophies won by the members of the Manutahi branch of the Rifle Association The hall had been most tastefully decorated with ferns, flowers and tokens of the club. Visitors had come from all parts. Mr. T.
