BURGLARY. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 18. Burglars entered the shop ot Schneideman s tailors, in Queen Street, by a fanlight in the trear of the premises, and removed goods to the value of £/o, including ladies’ silk hosiery and a fur coat. The thieves left by the front door. JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS. tl i i OAMARU, Aug. 18. IRe largest meeting ever held in Oamaru took place to-night, when the whole subject of junior high schools was threshed out. Addresses were given for and against and at the termination a show of hands was taken on a motion favouring junior high schools. This was declared by the Mayor to be carried by a. large maponty. NOTED ARCTIC EXPLORER. WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. Professor Viljamir Stefanson, the noted Arctic explorer, who is i n the Tahiti en route to America alter a stay of several months in Australia, says he is astonished at the little known of Australia’s vast continent,, its resources and its capabilities. He says it is a wonderful country, and offers great possibilities for exploring. He intended when he came out :o mate a tour of New Zealand, out owing to his prolonged stay in Australia the Dominion tour had to be cancelled. He will _ probably return next year on a special visit to New Zealand. DWELLING DESTROYED. NELSON, Aug. 18. A large wooden dwelling, owned and occupied by M. Barakat,, was totally destroyed by fire early yesterday morning. The outbreak, it is’believed, was due to a defective chimney. The insurance was £950 in the South British.
