TRAIN ACCELERATION.
Ever since the so-called speeding up ol the New Plymouth-Wellington mail train there has been a feeling of dissatisfaction in the southern end of the province that the gain was only on the section of the run to Aramoho. The very important feature of any acceleration appeared to residents at this end to be an earlier arrival at Wellington. This was declared more than once by xhe General Manager of the railways lo be impossible owing to the number of shoit distance trains running to and from the city, and the difficulty in handling trains at Tliorndon. The notice of an alteration in the time of running the evening train, from Wellington to Palmerston North is an opportunity to ask for reconsideration of the question of earlier arrival of the mail train at Wellington. Mr. O. Hawlien, M.P., is to’ be commended for so promptly taking up the matter with the department and asking for a concession lhat would be of very real value to people along the whole route, specially from Wanganui and north. We suggest that Taranaki members should unite in pressing the claims of the province and enlist the assistance of members representing electorates through which the line runs. The present 6eems to be an opportune time to move in that direction.
