WORLD FLIGHT
MAC-L AR EX’S DISAPPOINTMENT. BY CABLE—-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Aug. 18, 11 a.m. VANCOUVER, Aug. 17. Squadron-Leader Maelaren states that he does not contemplate another attempt at a world flight. When he realised that the ’plane was hopelessly damaged and his attempt to girdle the g.obe was frustrated he sat on the beach and wept. His feelings were shared by his companions. The real trouble commenced' after they left Tokio for the Kurile Islands, flying being just a series of short hops, the rest of the tigie being spent sitting on the sea, hesc-t bv fog. Maelaren expressed great admiration for FlightLieutenant Penderlaith, who he described as one of thte best pilots in the British Air Force. He handled the machine single-handed in all sorts of weather without making one bad landing. Maelaren doubts if Zanni. the Argentine aviator, will succeed in dossing the North Pacific this season. —Reuter. ATTEMPT BY ITALIAN. Received Aug. 18. 11.5 a.m. ' T REYKJAVIK. Aug. 17.
