DISCOVERY IN GIPPSLAND. EY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Aug. 18. 12.45 p.m. MELBOL RNE, Aug. 18. Ti aces of oil in Lake Bunga district, Gippsland, have caused a great rush tor claims, and 40,000 acres have been pegged, including the whole site of the township. In one direction the count/y has beeil pegged for a distance of iorty miles. The Director of Geological Survey advises caution, statinothat traces of oil have been found in one bore eighty feet in depth and inflammable gas, which may prove marsh gas The result of the laboratory tests will not be known till Wednest,ay- Aus.-N.Z.
