Afte-i looking threating the weather cleared, and Die third day’s racing took place under ideal conditions. Although cam had fallen since Thursday, the race track was in good condition. As idnni ° Uly vt° be expected under such ideal conditions, there was a large attendance for the third day. Wassail won Ins ‘‘double” like a good one, and Ins six furlongs in 1.14 1-5 with 11'? was meritorious. Vagabond had better Juck ni the Hurdles to-day and won with a great run. Racing opened with the Longbeaeh Handicap (gentlemen riders), and of the twelve runners Bullford started first choice, but the fact that Howard rode Gluement and Morris rode Bonena caused that pair to be weir supported, and Bullford’s supporters got a fair dividend. The race is easily described, tor after Adapted had led for. a short distance Bullford was taken to the front, ami leading Gluement into the stiaight uon easily. B.onena with a late run got within a couple of lengths of Gluement.
A very small field contested the Aylesbury Steeplechase, backers making Charlatan favourite, and he was paying less than “evens.” Paul Pry had a. good following, but none of the others were seriously considered. When the field settled down Red Sol was in front from Sherlock, Blue Streak and Paul Pry. The Kennels double almost brought Charlatan to grief, and Red Sol led to the bottom of the strai°iit where h e fell. Sherlock now took charge from Paul .Pry and Charlatan. Six furlongs from home Charlatan and Sherlock drew away from Paul Pry, hut over the last two furlongs Paul Prv came again and heat Charlatan easilv. Sherlock wa s a good third.
The Heathcote Handicap produced a good betting race Wassail £1965, Yoma £l9lO and Broadwood £IBSO. When the tapes rose Broadwood -was quickest out, but when the field had settled down Wassail was in front from Yoma and Broadwood. As the field rounded the home turn Wassail had a useful lead from Omahu, Tussore and Broadwood, and although Gray made a big effort to get Yoma on terms with Wassail, the last named beat Yoma comfortably, with Happy Warrior and Rose of Athens next, but some distance a wav.
The class that contested the Styx Hurdles was only fair, Bonibrook £IBSO, Demand £llls, and Adjutor £IO6O being the favourite trio. Bonibrook was the first over the initial hurdle from Agnola, Radiac and Demand. Going up the back straight. Agnola drew out to lead Demand, Bonibrook and Radiac. Half a mile from home Agnola was just clear of Fort Regal and Demand, and led over the last jump. A great race took place over the last, furlong, Radiac just getting up to beat Demand in the last stride. Agnola was a good third. The Sydenham Hurdles produced a fine field and an excellent, contest. When the totalisator closed Nukumai £J2SS, Vagabond £1205, Santiago £ll6O, Boomerday £llOO, Le Porte £960, and Omahu £940 were all solidly backed. From the fiagfall Tinokaha went to the lend, and passing the stand his closest followers were Boomerday, Omahu, Nukumai and Gamecock, with Penury Rose, Maunga ami Vagabond at the tail end. Going down the back Tinokalia was still in the lead from Nukumai, Santiago and Leforte. Half a mile from home there was little change in the leaders, but Vagabond started a great rim and at the last fence was in front with Nukumai, and in the run -!o the posi. went: on 1o beat Nukumai nicely, will) Omahu finishing well third.
A vise of twenty pounds did not prevent bettors from sending Rturdee (£1390) out favourite for the Line.oln Steeplechase, but Oakleigh (£12(50), Pnssin’ Through (£l2fio) :md Muster Peter (£1120) eaeli earned a lot of money. When the field were sent on their journey Galway set out as pacemaker, and he led Tigerland and Rturdee over the initial fence (Cutts’). At the Kennels double Rturdee had jumped himself to the lead, being followed by San Porte, Tigerland and Master Peter. The next fence brought- Galway down and Oakleigh fell over him. Passing the stand Rturdee and Ranforte were out in the lead, followed by Tigerland, Master Peter and Passin’ Through. Over the Kennels “ double” Master Peter got to the front, but Passin’ Through immediately went up and
joined him. They raced at the penultimate jump together, but Master Peter fell at the last fence. Passim’ Through had a big lead, but Sanf.orte (and in a lesser degree First Line) put in great runs, and Passin’ Through only won by a length from Sanforte, with First Line another neck away. Rivalry (£2450) was a. pronounced favourite for the Redc-liffs Hack. Of the other starters Bonatic (£1200) and Prompter (£1150) carried most money. The barrier rose to a good start, and when the field had settled down Miss Minerva was in front from Prompter, Rivalry and Mountain Signal. At the home turn Miss Minerva was just in front of Rivalry, who soon after took charge, but over the last half furlong Mountain Signal put in a determined challenge, and in good finish Rivalry just beat lier, with King Sol a poor third. Racing concluded with the Selwyn Handicap, for wliic-h event Wassail carried the large amount of £4260. Next in order of favouritism were Red Wink (£2100) and Moorland (£1200). When the positions could be placed Petunia was showing the way to Barn Owl, Wassail and Kuhio. A furlong from the post Barn Owl was in front, but finishing well under his big load Wassail won comfortably from Barn Owl, with Kuhio and Moorland next. NORTH TARANAKI HUNT. THE WEIGHTS.
