WHY WALK?
NEW, ZEALANDER’S STUNT IN SYDNEY. “ ’Tis never near, but always far, The spot we want to park our car.” r Such were the words of a leading Sydney * citizen who motored to the wharf on a Wednesday morning to farewell a brother director leaving on the Sonoma for San Francisco, because he did not arrive on the scene of departure till 10.55 a.m., and was' perforce compelled to leave his car many hundred yards from where the vessbl was moored, and then make a wild - dash on foot to reach the gangway before it was removed. ° Had he been in the vicinity of the Town Hall about the same time, instead of at the water’s edge, he might have learned how unnecessary it is these days to walk when yon have a car, provided you are blessed with an active brain as well as the usual pair of legs. A well-known New Zealand chemist who came over to Sydney last year for a holiday, and liked Sydney so well that- he decided to remain with us for L~ time > engaged himself in a quite uirrerent type of business to his own and, by virtue of this fact, had occasion to visit the Town Hall the same day as the Sonoma sailed. Like the rormer gentleman, he could not find a spot to park his car; but, unlike him, he 5 1( V lot halt awa y down near the post oflito, and keep his appointment on toot, hut, quickly summing up the situation, steered his motor through the Town Hall gateway, and undauntedly ascended the steep Druitt street steps.
