As a test of the efficiency of the fire drill in which the pupils of the Hawera School are trained, Superintendent Morrison visited the school this afternoon unexpected and gave an alarm. Uusing a stop watch, he found that the building was completely vacated in 47 seconds. When it is stated that some 670 children and the teachers left the building, it will be easily understood that the drill is most effectively taught, and reflects great credit on the headmaster and bis staff. After the children had left the building the roll was called, every child being accounted for. Superintendent Morrison expresses great satisfaction with the manner in which the children left the school, and with the speed with which the evacuation was effected. A reminder is given of the debate to be held at the Technical High School this evening,, when rival teams of students will d'y.cuss two questions of very great importance: (1) “The Singapore Scheme,” a.nd (2i “Domestic Work for Boys.” My 1\ O’Dea will lie indge, and a very interesting evening is certain. A general invitation is given to all interested.
