Vicks is the invention of a chemist who discovered a new way of combining the old fashioned, time tested remedies—such as Menthol, Camphor, Eucalyptus, Thyme, etc.—in the form of an ointment which, when rubbed, over the throat and chest, releases the ingredients in the form of vapours. These medicated vapours are inhaled with each breath directly into the air passages and lungs. At the same time the ingredients are absorbed through and stimulate the skin like a liniment, thus aiding the vapours to break up the congestion. Treat a Cold This Way. For sore throat, bronchitis, deep chest colds or croup, first rub Vicks briskly over the throat and chest, then spread on thickly and cover with one or two thicknesses of hot flannel. In severe cases first redden the skin with hot wet towels to open the pores.
