ARMS AND AMMUNITION SEIZED. MERCHANTS THREATEN TO STRIKE. BY CABLE—PRESB ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Aug. 15, 9.25 a.m. PEKIN, Aug. 14. Tlie Government of Canton seized the Norwegian steamer Hav, carrying 4850 rifles, 4551 Mauser pistols, (itiO. revolvers, and two and a half million rounds of ammunition consigned to Canton merchants for a volunteer corps. Sun Yat Sen previously granted ed an import permit, but now declares that this was obtaiiied by misrepresentation by the merchants. The volunteer organisation has rendered good service in preventing the exactions of terrorism by Sun Yat Sen’s mercenary troops. Merchants are threatening a general strike if the munitions are not released. —Sydney Sun Cable.
